It’s been a thrill, since 2017, to get to know you and people like you in health care, public health, and health professions, who are knocking themselves out to do everything you can to reduce health disparities and improve health equity.
The biggest event in HCP’s history has been the launching of our COURSES + ACTION process with our hybrid courses.
Ultimately, we want to reduce avoidable health disparities in quality, access and outcomes. Hospitals and health systems are dealing with new accreditation requirements for health equity, and other patient safety and quality improvement projects. You’ve got the data, you know where the disparities are, and now, you need to take action. That’s where our new courses come in.
There are plenty of resources out there for you to choose from. So I want to tell you what makes our COURSES + ACTION process different.
One is the emphasis is on identifying and managing systems-level barriers to equitable action. We do address individual-level actions. But I’m with those people who are saying “hey, don’t forget to look bigger than any one person’s style, bigger than any one person’s biases.”
Another is their history. These courses are the best of what I teach over and over, from years of working with organizations who have taken a long term view on equity. Five years of data collection and analysis went into the form and content of these courses. The instructional design is also from years of experience as a researcher, educator and consultant.
What also makes our courses different is how they work. COURSES + ACTION is a hybrid process. So these are not ‘sit-back-and-zone out’ courses: we take action. You watch on your own time, and then we do a live, one hour, virtual group session. I talk more about this in a recent episode.
The live sessions have been amazing. I get to meet you, hear about your practice, and work alongside you for awhile.
After six years, this is the biggest thrill of them all.
