Conflict is part of life. And that includes the health care setting.
Each of us encounters conflict in our professional and personal lives. Handling conflict well is an important part of communication (and an essential ingredient in leadership). Last week, I wrote about resolving conflict in patient interactions. I shared a set of questions and phrases you could use to calm a tense moment, focus on the problem not the person, and save a relationship.
Because resolving conflict isn’t about winning. Life isn’t a zero-sum game. This is about win-win situations, and maintaining good (or at least workable) relationships.
Readers pointed out to me that these phrases and questions were good for much more than patient interactions. They might just be good to have in life.
So this week, I’m offering you an infographic that you can save for those moments when things get a little heated. Maybe with a patient, maybe a coworker, maybe a family member…you get the idea. These phrases and questions will help even the most tongue-tied of us speak diplomatically.
