Several months ago, one of my closest friends lost her father to cancer. His decline was rapid, and the suddenness hit my friend especially hard.
We’re geographically far away from each other, but I wanted to share my support in the weeks that followed. The trouble was, I often didn’t know what to say. I didn’t want to say the wrong thing. I didn’t want to say nothing.
That’s when my cat entered the picture.
My friend is an animal person. So I began taking pictures of my cat and adding captions–messages of love and support–and texting them to her.
My cat could say what I couldn’t.
I thought of these pictures (and my cat’s advice) this week. Given all we’re going through, I thought I’d make a few more of these multimodal messages and share them with you.
My cat’s name is Barley, she’s 10 years old, a megafloof, and as you’ll see, perfect in every way. I hope these bring you some lightness in these heavy days.
(P.S. Barley’s a shelter pet. If you’re looking for some company during all this, why not consider a shelter pet? It’s a win-win-win!)
I hope you enjoy these–I enjoyed making and sharing them with you.
